(March 22, in case of extreme weather)
When the leaves are on the ground and branches are bare, how do we recognize the familiar trees in the woods around us? Join long-time UVM botanists Cathy Paris and Dave Barrington for a ramble through the winter woods of Mills Riverside Park and learn to identify a dozen common trees in the winter condition.
Cathy and Dave ask that you meet them at the Pavilion at 10 a.m. for a brief introduction to the trip; we'll then set off on a ramble around the West Fieldstone Loop. Dress to stay warm and dry and bring a small magnifying glass, if you have one. This all-ages event, sponsored by the Jericho-Underhill Land Trust, is free and open to the public.
"That time of year thou mayst in me behold
When yellow leaves, or none, or few, do hang
Upon those boughs which shake against the cold,
Bare ruin'd choirs, where late the sweet birds sang."
